UZURI K&Y is an African-inspired eco-friendly shoe brand that uses the 4R recycling technology of repurposing, reusing, recovering and reducing car tires to produce sustainable shoes. The company was founded in 2013 by two Rwandan university friends, Ysolde Shimwe and Kevine Kagirimpundu, to address environmental and unemployment challenges in their community. UZURI K&Y works to create change in the community by offering employment opportunities for women and youth in Rwanda. The company's core values are education, innovation, and sustainability.

The brand has developed advanced techniques for handcrafting shoes from its own production factory, which are sold through its retail stores in Rwanda and Kenya and also via e-commerce to reach international customers. UZURI K&Y aims to make Africa a source of sustainable fashion in the global market. In addition, the company develops viable solutions for recycling used car tires to create functional and fashionable shoes for conscious consumers.

By working on UN Sustainable Development Goals 13 on climate action through waste recycling, and 4 and 5 on quality education by equipping youth with technical skills, UZURI K&Y exists to tackle global challenges. To date, over 1,000 young people have been trained, of which 70% are women, to increase their potential to find jobs or start small businesses.
