Description

Kweza Craft Brewery is a Rwandan craft brewery that produces highly appreciated beers. It was launched in 2016 through a Kickstarter campaign led by Fina Uwineza, a Rwandan entrepreneur, and Steve Beauchesne, CEO of Beau's Brewery, with the goal of creating a women-owned and women-led craft brewery. Thanks to the campaign, Kweza was able to finance the purchase of a bottling line. In 2018, Jessi Flynn joined the team as co-founder and CEO.

The brewery pays tribute to the tradition of women brewing beer by involving women at all levels of the company. In many cultures, women have traditionally brewed beer without being able to benefit commercially from this activity. Kweza seeks to address this by allowing African women to share in the profits of the product they have historically created as investors, staff or leaders. The brewery sources locally and sustainably, and follows a business model that supports women and the local economy.

The name "Kweza" means "harvest" and "purity" in Kinyarwanda, which perfectly reflects Kweza Craft Brewery's mission to celebrate local ingredients and flora through its craft beers.
